In the 2024-25 school year, two elementary and three high schools in Pierce County received cash awards from the Championing Students’ Success Foundation (CSS). Roosevelt Elementary in the Tacoma School District and Woodland Elementary School in the Puyallup School District were awarded $2,000 each to support the work they are doing to improve student learning for diverse student populations.
In addition, this year, CSS created the “Excellence In Writing” scholarship for high school students who have excelled in or show potential to excel in writing. This year, students at Clover Park High in Clover Park School District, Spanaway Lake High in Bethel School District, and Washington High School in Federal Way School District received $500 or $1,000 scholarships. The funds are to be used for post-secondary education or training at the institution of the student’s choice.

CSS was founded in 2021 by current and former Washington public school administrators who have collectively served at the state, district, and school level. The goal of CSS is to support public schools serving low-income, predominantly minority students by offering small grants and scholarships to further their efforts.
For the 2024-25 school year, the focus is on schools in Pierce County. All schools we support serve a high-poverty, ethnically diverse student population. CSS selects schools to receive the Foundation’s awards after a rigorous review process of schools serving diverse populations. The Board of CSS views these grants as a way to thank the teachers for their work and encourage them to continue with their efforts. The Excellence in Writing scholarships encourage and support high potential and achievement in student writing.
