The Process Followed by the Championing Students’ Success Foundation In Selecting Schools to Fund

The mission of the Championing Students’ Success Foundation (CSS) is to provide support to elementary schools serving students from low-income and diverse populations.  In this second year, the focus continues to be on schools in Pierce County.  Additionally, the CSS Board decided to consider only schools in districts that were not funded during the initial year of our grants. In future years should additional resources become available, CSS may extend its support to other districts in the state. The Foundation will continue its focus on high-impact schools.  Students in these schools face the greatest challenges, and school performance gaps have historically been the largest, made even more so by issues currently encountered by schools.

The CSS Board members carefully reviewed the information that was available for each of the schools. After considering this information, the CSS Board reached consensus on the two schools to fund this year. The Board believes these schools will use the award money wisely to serve students.
